Westchester Community Image Council granted 501(c)(3) status

The Westchester Community Image Council has been granted 501(c)(3) status, an important achievement for the group, which formed in spring of this year.

“As a group we were elated to receive tax-exempt status from the IRS,” said Jim Lange, WCIC president and executive director. “This will expand our donor base to include contributions from individuals and corporations. We can now receive tax-deductible contributions that can be invested toward the improvement of our community.”

The group has been busy since its inception in spring. Most recently volunteers have been working with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s Keeper Corps program. Volunteers from WCIC and the Westchester Lions Club have cleared brush from the entrances to the Salt Creek bike trail on the southeast and southwest corners of Mannheim and Cermak roads.

Over the winter, the WCIC will design native Illinois perennial gardens, with the Preserve Keeper Corps’ oversight, for the path entrances at Cermak and at 31st Street east of Sunnyside Avenue, as well as the southeast and southwest corners of Wolf Road and 31st Street.

The WCIC has also joined MidAmerica Bank’s CommUNITY Banking program. The program makes a one-time donation to the WCIC for each checking, savings, money market and CD account opened or linked to the program at no cost to the account holder. Membership information is available at locations throughout town, including Sylvia E's, the Westchester Public Library, MidAmerica Bank, Harris Bank, Mayfair Fitness Center, Bruce Horek State Farm Insurance Agency, and Pack, Wrap & Ship in Westbrook Plaza, or at www.westchestercic.org.
