About the WCIC

The WCIC's first project was to transform the weed-filled median at Cermak and Mannheim into a garden

The WCIC formed in 2006, and our first project made a major statement: we transformed the weed-filled median at Mannheim and Cermak into a flowering garden. We have since helped with the landscaping at the library, created entry gardens at the post office, and most recently planted 75 median gardens along Westchester Boulevard.

We are also participants in the Preserve Keeper Corps program, picking up litter and removing non-native plant species from the forest preserve trailheads at Mannheim and Cermak.

In 2007, we received recognition from the state through a Governor's Home Town Award, as well as the Westchester Chamber of Commerce's 2007 Image Award. The WCIC is an all-volunteer, Illinois not-for-profit corporation and a 501(c)(3) organization. Click here to view the IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter in PDF format.

We welcome ideas for other projects in town. Please contact us at info@westchestercic.org.
