Canoe Launch Update

The Forest Preserve District has reviewed several sites for the proposed canoe launch, including Brezina Woods (on the east side of Mannheim , just south of Cermak), which would be an exciting addition to Salt Creek and a great recreation opportunity for Westchester residents. If plans are approved, the WCIC would likely clean and beautify the path leading to the creek.

The WCIC has also asked the Forest Preserve District to create a dog park in Westchester Woods (on Cermak, just east of the Edens Lanes bowling alley). The organization is interested in helping the district by planting gardens and otherwise improving the perimeter of where the park would be located, as well as helping secure donations and/or corporate sponsors. The district has shown interest, but staff members are currently revisiting the site selection process.

If you would like to see either proposal come to fruition, we encourage you to contact either Forest Preserve District Superintendent Steven Bylina (536 N. Harlem Ave., River Forest, IL 60305; 708.366-9420) or Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica (118 N. Clark St., Room 567, Chicago, IL 60602; 312.603-6384) and voice your support.
