...prior to 1953, fire protection for the village of Westchester was provided by the village of Maywood? In 1953 Maywood informed Westchester it could no longer provide protection services. In 1953 a committee was formed to establish a Westchester Fire Department. Seventeen men were recruited, and began training with an engine borrowed from Elmwood Park.

...after the School District 92 ½ was formed in 1929, students attended school at new homes in the 1600 and 1700 block of Newcastle until Britten School was completed in 1930? The school was named for the first school board president. The school, at 10110 Gladstone, is now leased to the Suburban Cook County Regional Office of Education, the Proviso Township Treasurer’s Office. ...nearly all the streets in Westchester reflect Samuel Insull’s vision for an “American hamlet” with English-inspired names? Insull was the first developer in Westchester, buying about 2,200 acres of land in what would become the village in 1924. Streets with German-sounding names are tributes to some of the early white settlers, German farmers like Boeger, Heidorn and Haase.
