News from the Westchester Community Image Council
Dear WCIC supporters,
The Westchester Community Image Council has been busy planning and planting and working toward creating aesthetic improvements to the public spaces in our town.
To date we have raised a little more than $3,000 from the residents and businesses of Westchester. We have spent just over half of that on projects. This shows that with frugality, creative planning and a knowledgeable volunteer work force, projects that enhance public areas can be done at relatively low cost. We believe this is a positive step and part of the process of spurring economic redevelopment in this village.
While support has been encouraging, we hope for increased involvement from our citizens to help us in our efforts to beautify our community.
Thanks again for your support,
Jim Lange
President and Executive Director

So far so good
We wanted to give you an update on some of the projects we’ve undertaken since we officially formed as a group in April 2006.
OUR FIRST MAJOR project, in July, was landscaping the median at Mannheim Road south of Balmoral and the triangle median on Crestwood Drive. After our first success, we have provided the Westchester U.S. Post Office with much needed landscaping, and we have further enhanced the Westchester Public Library Gardens. WCIC also provided three large decorative planters to School District 92.5 to help welcome students and teachers back to a new school year.
The latest project, on September 9, was a return to the library to add a rock border and further spruce up the gardens, with the help of Indian Guides Westchester Crow Tribe.
WE’RE ON-LINE: Our new Web site is up and running. Please visit www.westchestercic.org to keep apprised of our latest news and to contact us with your ideas and comments.
Coming up
WE ARE EXCITED to announce that we have joined forces with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPD) to enhance several major areas of forest preserve property. WCIC has become a member of the FPD's Preserve Keeper Corps program, a citizen volunteer program similar to the ones created in the 1930s to help bring the nation out of the Great Depression. WCIC and the Lions Club of Westchester have formed a partnership and have agreed to work together on these FPD projects. We anticipate work will begin in the coming month.
WATCH FOR DETAILS of our Bowling Night to be held at Broadview Bowl January 12, 2007. We hope to see you there.
Our members made these things happen!
THE WCIC HAS USED your donations to purchase flowers, plants and other supplies to help improve the appearance of our community. With the help of dedicated volunteers with the WCIC, as well as help from the Westchester Lions Club, Indian Guides, Divine Infant Holy Name Men’s Club, Westchester Community Church Youth Group, Westchester Gardens and many individuals, we are making a difference.
Your continued support helps. If you like what you’re seeing, please spread the word and encourage others to support our efforts. Donations – big and small, monetary and in-kind, and volunteer work – all make a difference and are greatly appreciated.
