Show your support for a dog park
The Forest Preserve District of Cook County is reviewing the WCIC request for
a dog park at Westchester Woods (Cermak Road east of Eden Lanes), but the
district has not settled on that location. We definitely
want to see this park
in our community, and the WCIC has offered to help with initial clean-up of the
site, landscaping the perimeter, and helping secure corporate sponsors.
If you would like to see this become a reality, please let the Forest Preseve
District know. Below is a sample letter to the district's superintendent.
Thank you,
WCIC board of directors
Mr. Steven Bylina Jr.
Superintendent, Forest Preserve District of Cook County

Dear Mr. Bylina,
I am writing to urge you to support the proposed dog park for Westchester Woods.
This is an ideal location for a dog park, in terms of its size, accessibility
and layout. The dog park would fall nicely into Commissioner Peraica's overall
recreational plan for this part of the county that includes Salt Creek Trail,
Brookfield Zoo and Cermak Pool.
The park would serve people and their dogs from a wide area. It is easily
accessible from Cermak Road. Furthermore, the Westchester Community Image
Council is eager to support the Forest Preserve District's efforts through
initial clean-up and landscaping, as well as maintenance and seeking corporate
sponsorship. This effective volunteer group is not available to help other
villages.
Such a park would benefit the entire village of Westchester by bringing in more
people who may in turn patronize our shops and restaurants.
The WCIC members stand ready to help launch this park, and I believe they are
providing the forest preserve district an ideal opportunity to create an amenity
that will benefit many.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
