August 19: WCIC Day

On Sunday, August 19, the WCIC celebrated its monthly work date with much fanfare. The Westchester Village Board, in an unanimously approved resolution, declared August 19 to be Westchester Community Image Council Day. WCIC day was celebrated by WCIC volunteers with a tree planting ceremony and finished off with cake bearing the WCIC logo from Banana Bakery.

Village Trustee and WCIC founder Rick Fox read the resolution, which was drafted and submitted to the Village Board by Ms. Barbara Lucchese, a 48-year Westchester resident. ( Click here to view the entire resolution.)  Ms. Lucchese then threw the ceremonial first shovelful of dirt to make room for three Prairiefire crab apple trees, that were planted at the Welcome Garden. The resolution recognized WCIC's efforts over the past year and a half and noted that we are semi-finalists in the annual Governor's Hometown Award program. The hometown award annually recognizes exceptional community volunteerism throughout the State of Illinois.

We're very grateful for the addition to the garden, which was created by the Westchester Gardens and Westchester Chamber of Commerce. They will flower beautifully in late spring. And thank you to Ms. Lucchese, for encouraging such public support of our efforts.

In addition, WCIC volunteers added a new layer of mulch to the Welcome Garden trail.
